OUTREACH
MISSION STATEMENT

The Outreach Council will research, identify, promote and implement outreach opportunities outside the church as they present themselves.  However, the committee recognizes the great need here at home and will focus on providing the Lord's service in Harlingen, the Lower Rio Grande Valley and the Mexico-border area. 

The Outreach Council will be sensitive to the individuals they serve, pledging to provide a supporting role in a humble, Christ-like manner and perspective in His service. (Adopted June 13, 2002)

Medical Supply Closet

Harlingen First United Methodist Church has a variety of medical equipment for those in need.  Some of the items for loan ore shower chairs, wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, a medical bed, etc.  If you need medical equipment or would like to donate items, please contact the Harlingen FUMC office at 956-423-0540 or email at office@harlingenfumc.com

Nuevo Progreso Building Project

Each Spring, adult members of the Harlingen FUMC congregation build 2 or 3 houses in one weekend in Nuevo Progreso, Mexico.

 

The youth group, with parent volunteers, paint the homes the following weekend.  It is a wonderful experience to help spread the Word and love of God through helping hands.

 

 

Fall Building Project

Each October,  join the Methodist Men as we work together to repair a house in Harlingen for someone less fortunate.

 

 

Loaves & Fishes

Every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month two volunteers from our Harlingen FUMC serve food at Loaves and Fishes from 4:00 pm till 6:00 pm.  It is a great opportunity for young and old.  Loaves and Fishes was started in 1991 to serve meals to the hungry.  They serve over 60,000 meals a year to those in need.

 
Egg Sunday

The FUMC Harlingen Outreach Council collects money in April to help buy perishables for Loaves & Fishes and End of the Road Ministries.
